Queen bed in a private honeymoon dome suite with a Starview window at the front of the dome in South Haven, Michigan

Honeymoon in South Haven

Michigan Honeymoon

One of the quietest Michigan honeymoon spots on the lakeshore: a private geodesic dome suite on 150 acres in South Haven, LUNARA spa rituals for two, float tanks, on-site dinner and a Lake Michigan beach six minutes down the road. No airport, no lobby, no schedule.

The honeymoon suite

A dome suite built for the first week of a marriage

Michigan honeymoon suites usually mean a jacuzzi and a view of the parking deck. This is not that.

A honeymoon has one real requirement: uninterrupted time with one other person. Everything else is set dressing. That is why the dome works so well for it, a freestanding suite on 150 private acres with a queen bed, layered linens, soft lighting and a Starview window at the front of the dome, and no hotel machinery humming on the other side of the wall.

Because the resort is small and the acreage is not, privacy is not something you have to negotiate at check-in. Dome sites are spread through the trees, each with its own lounge chairs. You can spend two days seeing only each other and the person who brings your dinner, or you can walk to the clubhouse and be sociable. Both are normal here.

It also happens to be a lake honeymoon that does not require a flight. For couples in Chicago, Detroit or Grand Rapids, this is a two- to three-hour drive, which means more of the week is spent on the honeymoon and less of it spent in transit with a suitcase and a boarding pass.

The week itself

Four rituals that make up a honeymoon here

A suite with no shared walls

The dome is yours alone, set back in the trees on its own site. Nothing to walk through, nobody to greet, no housekeeping cart in a hallway at nine in the morning.

Spa rituals for two

Back-to-back bodywork at LUNARA, a private sauna hour, then a 60-minute float tank session each. It is the most disarming way we know to start a marriage.

Dinner you never drive to

On-site dining and a charcuterie board that travels well to your own dome, plus downtown South Haven seven minutes out when you want a table in town.

Fire, stars and the lake

A fire pit under 150 acres of dark sky, and a Lake Michigan beach six minutes away for the sunsets the west coast is famous for.

Slow it down

Float, sauna, sound bed, sleep

Weddings leave people wrung out. The spa is how you land.

LUNARA sits on the property, which means a treatment is a five-minute walk rather than a drive and a parking search. Therapeutic and deep tissue bodywork, results-driven facials, a private sauna, a sound bed and two float tanks, a float is 60 minutes of weightless quiet in warm, salt-dense water and costs $75. Overnight guests get first access to float and sauna times.

Sequence it properly and the first two days of the honeymoon do all the recovery: bodywork on arrival, a float the next morning, sauna before dinner. Read what a float session actually does if you have never tried one, then look at the romantic getaways in Michigan page for the shorter-weekend version of the same trip.

Lake Michigan honeymoon days, without the crowds

South Haven is the small-town lakeshore people picture when they say Pure Michigan.

Four minutes to the nearest public beach, seven to the pier and lighthouse, twenty up the coast to Saugatuck for galleries and a waterfront lunch. Wineries along the Lake Michigan Shore trail and the blueberry farms fill an afternoon, and the sunsets over the water make the photographs look staged.

The rest of the week stays on property: pool club in season, fire pits, trails trails and complimentary wellness classes (schedule varies by season) with a direct booking. See the full glamping in Michigan guide, the dome hotel details, or the Michigan weekend getaway plan if you are only away for two nights.

Honeymoon questions

What newlyweds ask us first

Yes, and it is one of our most common bookings. The domes are freestanding and spaced across 150 acres, so the stay is private by layout rather than by request, and the spa, dining and pool club mean a honeymoon week never needs an itinerary.

Private Disco is the two-person suite: queen bed, luxury linens, a Starview window at the front of the dome and a private entrance on 150 rolling acres. Disco with Friends & Family is the choice for couples who want more room and more theatre.

Spa treatments, sauna hours, float tank sessions, cabana reservations and dining can all be added to a stay, and ask our team which gift options apply. Tell us it is your honeymoon when you book and we will sequence the weekend around the two of you.

There is no shared corridor, no adjoining wall and no lobby to pass through. You park, walk a lantern-lit path and open your own door. In summer the Pool Club is 21+ on weekends, and children under 6 are never permitted in the Pool Club area.

Late June through August for beach days and the heated pool club, September and October for warm light and quiet trails, and midwinter for snow on the panels with the spa nearly to yourselves.

Many couples do exactly that. The property also hosts small weddings and buyouts, so you can celebrate here and stay on after everyone else drives home.
